A.D. Ton Damen died on December 24 of prostate cancer. Mr. Damen was president of Werimex NV, Bloemendaal, The Netherlands, and represented dredging equipment manufacturers, specifically Florida Machine and Foundry and Mobile Pulley and Machine Works, for many years, starting in 1972.

IHC Merwede Receives 300 Million In Dredge Orders

IHC Merwede has received orders for the construction of two large trailing suction hopper dredges (TSHD) and eight medium-sized cutter suction dredges. The TSHDs will be delivered to the Yangtze Estuary Waterway Administration Bureau in China. Three of the cutter dredges are for the Adani Group in India, and five cutter dredgers are for a Chinese client.

Parker Hannifin Corporation (NYSE: PH), announced on June 3, 2008 that it had acquired industrial hose manufacturer Titan Industries, now known as Parker Titan. Headquartered in South Gate, California, Parker Titan manufactures custom and composite hoses for the dredging industry and other industrial applications. The company has another manufacturing facility in Salisbury, North Carolina, and sales offices in Houston, Texas and Arvada, Colorado.

Update on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1/S.1)

On Wednesday, January 28th, the US House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The bill passed with a vote of 244 - 188, with no Republicans voting for the bill. The House bill includes $526.5 billion in spending and $275 billion in tax cuts, of that spending figure only about 5% will go toward infrastructure.
