January 5, 2005: The Department of the Navy proposes to demolish Pier 11, the existing breakwater, and Piers G & H. The area will be dredged (new and maintenance dredging) to a depth of -52.0 feet, which includes approximately 1,550,000 cubic yards (CY) of material to be disposed at the Craney Island Disposal Area. A new 957.26 foot concrete bulkhead will be constructed channelward of the existing bulkhead, a new 633-foot long relieving platform, and a new 92.85-foot wide by 1600-foot long pre-cast concrete pier will be constructed, as well as, a new 300-foot long breakwater in front of Piers D, E, and F. The project is located in the Elizabeth River a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, in and around Pier 11, which is adjacent to Decatur Avenue on the west side of the road at Naval Station Norfolk, in Norfolk, Virginia. Expiration date: February 4, 2005.

Marine Hydraulics Incorporated proposes to hydraulically dredge and area 232 feet wide by 990 feet long to a depth of -65 feet at MLLW. This area will be the mooring location of a new floating drydock and is necessary for operations. The second area to be dredged is 232 feet by 226 feet to a depth of -40 feet which will connect the drydock to the main channel in the Elizabeth River. The project is located on the East side of the Elizabeth River a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, adjacent to the mid-town tunnel Norfolk, Virginia. Expiration date: February 5, 2005.
