Dredge Fry to Remove Rudee Inlet Shoaling
The Norfolk District Engineer proposes to maintenance dredge the entrance channel to Rudee Inlet, Virginia Beach, Virginia, on a one-time, emergency basis. The inlet is shoaling to depths that threaten navigation through the inlet, creating a potential hazard to life and navigation. The proposal is based on procedures set forth in 33 CFR Part 337.7 for emergency dredging. The district engineer proposes to use the Corps-owned side-casting Dredge Fry to remove 9000 cubic yards of sand and place it on either adjacent side of the inlet channel. The self-propelled Fry was in Wilmington, North Carolina on Thursday, February 3, expected to arrive in Virginia Beach on Friday evening, and begin dredging on Saturday morning.
