HYDROGRAPHIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA CREATES LATIN AMERICAN CHAPTER

During the last U.S. HYDRO 2015, held in Washington, D.C. from March 16 to 19, the Hydrographic Society of America announced the creation of the Latin American Chapter. This becomes the third active chapter, after the Houston and Southeast chapters.

CANADIAN GOVERNMENT UNVEILS PRINTED MODEL

As part of Parks Canada’s search for the vessels of the lost 1845 expedition, officials from Fisheries and Oceans Canada joined geospatial software company CARIS and technology supper center TECTERRA to unveil 3D printed models of HMS Erebus, Sir Jon Franklin’s lead ship found last year in Canada’s Arctic waters.

CARIS has released a desktop application for the production of electronic navigational products, including electronic navigational charts (ENC), additional military layers (AML), inland electronic navigation charts (IENC) and digital nautical charts (DNC) – CARIS S-57 Composer 3.0.

HYPACK INTEGRATES VELODYNE LASER

HYPACK worked with the Velodyne HDL-32E topographic laser, when Dave Maddock of HYPACK integrated the unit to receive data from all 32 channels. A drive around the local Lowe’s hardware store, using a Novatel C-Span RTK-GPS is shown here. The Velodyne HDL-32E laser measures only 5.7 inches x 3.4 inches, can be mounted in a variety of angles, and generates up to 700,000 points per second with a range up to 70 meters (230 feet). The new integration is available as an update to HYPACK® 2015.

DUTCHWORKBOATS OFFER VERSATILE SURVEY VESSEL

DutchWorkboats builds workboats vessels, survey crew and dredging support, from five to 15 meters, in HDPE, aluminum and steel. The Fast Survey Boat 7.50 can operate at high speeds on surveying and transits with a spacious and comfortable cabin. The trailered boat can easily move from location to location. The boat is 7.85 meters (26 feet) LOA with 0.70 meter (2.3 feet) draft. The hull material is aluminum and can survey at a maximum speed of 30 km/h, with a top transit speed of 45 km/h. Two separate moonpools can support fixed mounting of the survey equipment, like a multibeam, and the permanently placed sensors minimize misalignment and recalibration.
