JAN DE NUL DREDGES PORT OF MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE

Dredging at the Port of Maputo, Mozambique is now underway. As reported by Jan De Nul, on May 21 trailing suction hopper dredge De Lapérouse kick-started the dredging works after being mobilized from Durban, South Africa.

JAN DE NUL’S CABLE LAYING VESSEL ISAAC NEWTON HEADS TO MARJAN OIL FIELD

On February 2, Jan De Nul (JDN) Group, a provider of installation works for subsea cables and umbilicals for the oil and gas and renewable energy markets, announced it will install two new power cables for Saudi Aramco at its Marjan Field, offshore of Saudi Arabia in the Persian Gulf. The 115 kV subsea power and communication cables, supplied by Nexans Norway, are being transported to the Marjan Gas Oil Separation Plan (GOSP) project executed by McDermott Middle East, Inc. McDermott International, a provider of integrated engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) services for offshore and subsea field developments worldwide, is headquartered in Houston.

GERMAN DREDGING MARKET LEADER STRA-BAG WASSERBAU ACQUIRED BY BOSKALIS

In early January, Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) announced a ‘heads of agree-ment’ with STRABAG SE for the acquisition of the dredging activities and assets of STRABAG Wasserbau GmbH, formerly known as Möbius Wasserbau. STRABAG Wasserbau, based in Hamburg, Germany is the market leader in the German dredging sector. The company has an annual turnover of approximately €£50 million ($55 million) with a broad array of equipment. By April 4, the Boskalis’ acquisition of the dredging activities and assets of STRABAG Wasserbau GmbH was concluded for the agreed transaction price of €£70 million ($78 million). This does not include any goodwill and has been financed entirely from Boskalis’s own cash flow.

Kansas Water Office and Partners Celebrate Start of John Redmond Reservoir Dredging

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and contractor Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corp. on May 17 to ceremoniously direct the official dredging of the John Redmond Reservoir to begin, a much-needed project to restore storage capacity at the reservoir and water supply for the long term. The Great Lakes 22-inch electric dredge LP started work at the reservoir in May.

Brevard County Project Proves Gator Aquatic Technologies New Treatment Process

In January 2016, Gator Aquatic Technologies launched as a new company, armed with numerous projects and demand for its new technology that combines liquid solids separation with soluble nutrient and contaminant removal in a single phase. The technology is at work on a project in Brevard County, Florida, in the Indian River Lagoon, removing phosphorus and nitrogen from the contaminated sediment and water along the waterway.

Italian Chemical Industry Adopts Dragflow’s Remote-Controlled Dredge DRP18

Dragflow has recently delivered a small, remote-controlled dredge, the DRP18, to Candeo Agostino of Padova, Italy, as part of the remediation program at Momentive, an internationally known chemical company with an important presence in Italy. Candeo Agostino is in the field of cleaning and environmental hygiene, with ecological interventions for small, medium and large users for civil and industrial applications. The company conducts environmental inspections and analyses, including sludge dewatering, water filtration, transport and disposal of waste.

Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Company, LLC is nearing the completion of a project to create a nine-acre site that will house the events village for the 2017 America’s Cup in Bermuda. The new land will provide a viewing area for the races in nearby Great Sound.
