KELLER TO SUPPLY DREDGE PUMP GEARBOXES FOR NEW CCCC DREDGE

Chuwa Bussan Co., Ltd., which is part of the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), signed a contract on July 14 with C. u. W. Keller GmbH & Co. KG (KELLER) from Troisdorf, Germany, to supply all dredge pump gearboxes and a giant gearbox to drive the cutterhead, on a new flagship dredge for CCCC Tianjin Dredging Co. Ltd.

New DEME Hopper Dredge Will Operate on LNG

The DEME Group has ordered a new generation of its Antigoon class dredge. Named the Scheldt River, the dredge is being built by Royal IHC in the Netherlands. It will be powered by Wärtsilä dual-fuel (DF) engines, and will be the first dredge to operate engines capable of using either liquefied natural gas (LNG) or conventional marine fuels.

DRAGFLOW Offers New Amphibious Dredge

A new DRAGFLOW amphibious dredge (DRM85/160E22) was sold by the company’s Chilean distributor Jacol to a mining company in northern Chile. The dredge will work in a tailings pond near a mine in the Atacama Desert, which runs along the Pacific Coast through Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.

How to Build the Next Generation of Greener Hopper Dredges

For decades, the leadership and technological supremacy in the field of trailing suction hopper dredge design and construction has resided in Western Europe, particularly the Netherlands. While there have been significant changes in the maritime, shipbuilding and dredging industries, much of the current fleet of U.S. hopper dredges includes obsolete design features that would not be found on a contemporary European dredge. These out-of-date features economically and environmentally penalize the operators for the life of the vessel and restrict the efficiency of the fleet for the ships’ entire lives.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District has acquired five HydroLite-TM hydrographic survey systems. Each integrated hydrographic system was equipped with the SonarMite echo sounder and features a portable, integrated hydrographic survey solution that quickly measures and logs depths and is adaptable to any vessel.
