CSA COMPLETES SEAGRASS MITIGATION FOR MIAMI HARBOR DEEPENING PROJECT

As part of the overall environmental mitigation requirements for the deepening and widening of Miami Harbor, in October CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) completed the transplantation of more than 115,000 seagrass plants into the newly filled dredge hole north of the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Miami, Florida.

JT CLEARY CELEBRATES 20 YEARS

In September, JT Cleary celebrated 20 years in marine construction. Company milestones include incorporation and startup in New York City in 1995; expansion along the Eastern Seaboard in 2000; and creation of the dredging division in 2005. The company experienced an increase in contract awards in 2010 and unveiled a new corporate brand in 2015.

FURUNO INTRODUCED THE NEW DRS4DL HIGH-POWER, COMPACT UHD RADAR

Furuno introduces the DRS4DL, a 4 kW, 36 n.m. radar that is housed in a compact 19-inch Radome. This new antenna utilizes the same size dome as the DRS2D; however, on the inside the new transceiver has twice the power. Furuno says the radar couples higher power with a 5.2-degree horizontal beamwidth antenna and the company’s automatic, real-time digital signal processing.

FURUNO NAMED BEST RADAR BY NMEA

In October, the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) awarded a Furuno product with its 40th straight Best Radar Award at the 2015 NMEA Conference & Expo in Baltimore, Maryland.

TELEDYNE RESON LAUNCHES ECHOSOUNDER

In October, Teledyne RESON introduced the SeaBat T50-P, an ultra-high resolution, portable multibeam echosounder. The SeaBat T50-P is a new addition to the SeaBat T-series, introduced in the beginning of 2013 as a completely new product generation.

KSB ANNOUNCES NEW FOUNDRY AT GIW INDUSTRIES

GIW Industries Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of KSB, announced its foundry grand opening. The foundry is part of a large expansion that includes a new distribution center, additional heat-treat and casting cleaning facilities, CNC machines, and an assembly center.

XYLEM ACQUIRES HYPACK

On October 22, Xylem Inc., a global water technology company, acquired substantially all of the assets of HYPACK, Inc. Going forward, HYPACK said its expertise in hydrographic survey data acquisition, processing and visualization software will complement Xylem’s capabilities in ocean and coastal analytics and applications.

CRA Hosts Corpus Christi Dredging Seminar

For more than a decade, Chris Ransome and Associates (CRA), a hydrographic survey firm, and dredging contractor Orion Marine Group have been conducting conferences to raise awareness of maintenance dredging, specifically for commercial docks, in various port systems such as Houston and Beaumont. On November 8, Corpus Christi hosted the first series of the seminar at the downtown Omni Hotel.

Eddy Pump Corporation has a star. The company’s new dredge, called the Subdredge, is a featured player in two seasons of “Bering Sea Gold” on the Discovery Channel.

LIEBHERR LAUNCHES HS 8300 HD WITH NEW HYDRAULIC HYBRID DRIVE

In September, Liebherr launched the HS8300 HD, the largest duty cycle crawler crane in its HS series. The first model was sold to Chioggia, Italy-based Zeta S.r.l.
