On October 14, the Coastal Wetlands Planning Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) Task Force held its 25th anniversary ceremony at Grand Isle State Park in Grand Isle, Louisiana. The ceremony celebrated CWPPRA’s commitment to coastal restoration.

When looking for a way to introduce his tailings dewatering machine to the U.S., Australian David Smirk found PIANC’s Dredging 2015 on the Internet. “Moving and Managing Sediments,” the theme of the conference, was exactly what he could do. He booked an exhibit booth for his company, Residue Solutions, and technical manager Leon Munro submitted a technical paper, which was accepted.

Dredging Company Fined Half A Million in 2012 Death

Louisiana-based dredging firm C.F. Bean, LLC pleaded guilty to criminal negligence in the September 2012 boating death of Biloxi, Mississippi, businessman Mark Barhanovich, and was fined the maximum amount allowed: $500,000. The company must also pay a special assessment of $400 and will be on probation for five years.

Marsha Cohen will retire at the end of the year as editor of Terra et Aqua, a post she has held since 1991. The technical dredging journal is published by the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) in The Hague, the Netherlands.

CRA Hosts Corpus Christi Dredging Seminar

For more than a decade, Chris Ransome and Associates (CRA), a hydrographic survey firm, and dredging contractor Orion Marine Group have been conducting conferences to raise awareness of maintenance dredging, specifically for commercial docks, in various port systems such as Houston and Beaumont. On November 8, Corpus Christi hosted the first series of the seminar at the downtown Omni Hotel.

The U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers posted a notice on August 18 in the Federal Register, describing their intention to deactivate most of the Nationwide Global Positioning System (NDGPS) on January 15, 2016.
