VAN OORD ACQUIRES BILFINGER OFFSHORE WIND ACTIVITIES

At the end of July, Van Oord, dredging and marine specialists, head-quartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, reached an agreement on the acquisition of the offshore wind activities of Bilfinger Marine & Off-shore Systems GmbH, a German company active in the engineering, construction and the installation of foundations for offshore wind parks and harbor construction. The agreement covers the acquisition of assets and employees related to the offshore wind activities. The acquisition is subject to approval by the Bundeskartellamt, the German competition (anti-trust) authority.

DRAVO S.A. WINS BEACH REPLENISHMENT CONTRACTS IN SPAIN

Dravo S.A., the Spanish subsidiary of Van Oord, headquartered in the Netherlands, has recently been awarded a number of long-term beach maintenance contracts. Beach replenishments in Barcelona and La Pineda near Tarragona have already been completed, while operations on the beach of Playa de Castillo, located on one of the Canary Islands known as Fuerteventura, are ongoing.

LOUISIANA PARISH AND PORT COMMISSION STEP UP TO HELP FUND NAVIGATION CHANNEL DREDGING

In August, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District and the Terrebonne Parish Port Commission signed an agreement for additional funds for more dredging and improved channel depth in the Houma Navigation Canal.

PORT OF WILMINGTON COMPLETES TURNING BASIN EXPANSION; ORION AWARDED CONTRACT FOR BASIN WORK

The North Carolina Ports has completed the expansion project of its turning basin at the Port of Wilmington. The expansion will allow for the accommodation of post-Panamax vessels, the first of which arrived on August 7 at the Port of Wilmington.

MANSON PERFORMING MAINTENANCE AT THE PORT OF FREEPORT

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded Manson Construction Company a $7,629,200 contract for maintenance dredging of the Freeport Harbor Entrance and Jetty channels in Brazoria, County, Texas.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a $15,692,500 contract to Weeks Marine Inc. for maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel, Redfish Reef to Morgan’s Point.

SEATTLE DISTRICT AND PORT RELEASE DRAFT FEASIBILITY REPORT ON SEATTLE HARBOR DEEPENING PROJECT

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Seattle District released the Seattle Harbor Navigation Improvement Project Draft Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment for a 30-day comment period from August 2 to 31. The Port of Seattle is also the non-federal sponsor working with the Corps to complete the study. The two held a public meeting for the proposal on August 18.
