KIASMA SRL IMPROVES PIPELINE

The research and development department of Kiasma Srl has improved on its KFC system, for controlling the turbulent motion inside of a pipeline that causes random abrasion. The system ensures the flow in the pipeline is sufficient enough to propel sediment through the circumference of the tube, ensuring uniform abrasion and longer use of the pipeline.

Corps Surveys Texas Coast with LiDAR Technology

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District began implementing mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) survey data technology along the Texas coast in November. The software will survey dredging placement areas, assist with hydrographic surveys and collect data that will help analyze beach erosion.

Spanish Yard to Build Van Oord Two Hopper Dredges

Van Oord ordered two 17,000-cubic-meter trailing suction hopper dredges from Spanish Construcciones Navales del Norte S.L., LaNaval. The company will build the dredges at its yard in Billbao, Spain. Both vessels will be delivered in 2017.

Damen delivered Pasam, a type STU2208 tug, and Daserah, a CSD500 cutter suction dredge to a Nigerian customer, for river maintenance near the Port Harcourt in Nigeria. The port lies along the Bonny River in the Niger Delta.

Illumagear Personal Lighting System Wins Awards

Illumagear Personal Lighting System Wins Awards

The Illumagear LED Halo Light, a safety and task light that slides onto a hard hat, received eight product awards in 2014. The 360-degree circle of lights illuminates the entire work area, as opposed to concentrating light on one spot, as an ordinary headlamp would do. In dredging and other construction applications, the light allows workers to see and be seen in low-light areas - inside tanks, engine rooms and other confined areas that are not provided with other light sources, and outdoors in darkness or dim light.
