Cargo Numbers: May – June 2014

At the Port of Long Beach, cargo container numbers edged up 2.7 percent in May, reaching nearly 600,000 container units. In June, the port handled 610,516 TEUs overall. Both were the busiest months respectively since 2007.

MIC Performs Maintenance Dredging at Port Orford, Oregon

In 2014, Marine Industrial Construction, LLC (MIC) of Wilsonville, Oregon, performed maintenance dredging at Port Orford in Oregon. This spring, the project dredged approximately 7,000 cubic yards in a short time period and involved critical coordination between many parties to ensure as much of the small port could be used as possible during dredging.

Cleveland-Europe Freight Service Opens

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC) announced the launch of the Express Ocean Freight Service. The new service will run between the Port of Cleveland and Antwerp, Belgium, via the Saint Lawrence Seaway and is the first regularly scheduled international cargo shipping service to a U.S. port on the Great Lakes in decades.
