Brennan Honored by Wisconsin Engineers for Broadcast Capping System

Dredging and environmental contractor J.F. Brennan Co., Inc. was one of 12 companies who received Certificates of Merit from the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers at its Wisconsin Governor’s New Products Awards (GNPA) ceremony on May 27. Brennan was honored for its Broadcast Capping System (BCS™), which places subaqueous caps and sand covers over contaminated bottom areas.

From the end of March through the end of May, The Dredge McFarland, based out of Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia, completed 62 days of urgent dredging at the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River 90 miles south of New Orleans.

Sea-Axe Developed for Precise Sediment Removal in Shallow and Deep Water

Alex Whyte has drawn on three decades of experience to design a controlled flow excavator (CFE) that can be precisely controlled in water from a meter and a half (4.9 feet) to 500 meters (1,640 feet) deep. JBS Subsea of Peterhead, Scotland teamed with Whyte to manufacture and market the new Sea-Axe, which had its commissioning in May.

Michael Behan’s Harbor Resource Management Corporation (HRMC) is about to embark on a commercial demonstration of its TerraCure™ process on a contract in Louisiana to remediate approximately 500 cubic yards of soil contaminated by oil drilling in the early 20th century. The technology was developed for treating contaminated dredged material.

TRIMBLE INTRODUCES NEW RECEIVER

Trimble introduced the SPS356 DGNSS​ Beacon Receiver, which allows contractors to achieve sub-meter accuracy using DGNSS or MSK Beacon station corrections for robust, multi-constellation positioning. Trimble said the receiver is well suited for dredging, vessel positioning and tracking, and bathymetric surveying.
