Jacksonville Harbor Begins Mile Point Project, Ahead of Port Deepening

In April 2015, the Jacksonville District awarded Manson Construction Company a $39,520,500 contract for dredging and construction work along the St. Johns River at Mile Point. This project will correct a navigation issue where the river and Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) meet, in anticipation of the larger port deepening project, which will complete the design and engineering phase in November.

Buffalo District to Study Sediment Movement Along Presque Isle Peninsula

To study the movement of sediment along the Presque Isle Bay shoreline in Erie, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District is conducting a particle tracer study to determine if material dredged from Erie Harbor Shipping Channel can be used to nourish and enhance the shoreline growth on the peninsula.

MANSON AWARDED PORT OF L.A. CONTRACT

Manson Construction Co. won a $44.6 million contract from the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners to upgrade berths and backlands. The Port of Los Angeles will begin construction this summer on a two-year project to improve the marine container terminal operated by Yusen Terminals, LLC.

PORT OF LONG BEACH APPROVES BUDGET AND PREPARES FOR DREDGING BID

On June 2, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved an $829 million budget for the Harbor Department’s FY 2016. The budget includes more than a half a billion dollars for capital improvements at the port, with $555 million designated for capital investments, namely the port’s major terminal redevelopment and bridge replacement projects.

CORPS COMMITS FUNDING TO PORT EVERGLADES PROJECT

On July 7, local elected official gathered at Port Everglades in Broward Country, Florida to announce a $1.2 million funding measure from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to proceed with the pre-construction, engineering and design (PED) phase.

Van Oord Wins Dubai Contract

Van Oord will continue work on the Deira​ Island, in Dubai. Van Oord constructed the islands between 2005 and 2008, and now will work building a 23.5-km (14.6-mile) coastline and breakwaters.

Boskalis Awarded U.K. Contract

The Defence Infrastructure Organization of the Ministry of Defence awarded Boskalis a EUR 35 million ($38.5 USD) contract to dredge the approach channel to the port of Portsmouth in the U.K. The work will deepen and widen the seven-kilometer long approach channel, removing three million cubic meters of hard clay, sand and gravel, over eight months. Boskalis will use medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredges and backhoe dredges.
